Provider of long-duration energy storage wins leading Italian climate-tech award for its achievements with the CO2 Battery innovation
MILAN (Nov. 14, 2022) – Energy Dome, a leading provider of utility-scale long-duration energy storage solutions, today announced it has won the prestigious Ecomondo 2022 Award for Sustainable Development, in the “startup for climate” category.
Energy Dome won the award for its CO2 Battery, a long-duration storage solution for renewable energy. The technology uses a thermodynamic process to store and discharge energy by converting carbon dioxide from liquid to gas. The Sardinia-based demo plant of Energy Dome has demonstrated high efficiency at a low cost and uses readily available raw materials unaffected by global supply chain constraints.

The other two Ecomondo award categories this year included circular economy and natural capital. Faenza-based Caviro Extra, focused on circular management of byproducts and waste from winemaking to produce renewable electricity, biomethane and composted soil improvers, won the circular economy award category. Drago delle Colline Metallifere, a Tuscan association dedicated to organic agriculture and agroecology, short-chain consumption, protection of regional biodiversity and sustainable development, earned the natural capital award.
Italian winners across all three categories had to demonstrate environmental benefits, a positive economic impact, job creation and potential for scaling of their technologies. The Sustainable Development 2022 Award is presented in collaboration with Italy’s Circular Economy Network, WWF, CREA-RURALE NZIONALE, Italy for Climate (an initiative of the Foundation for Sustainable Development) and STEP.
Now in its twelfth year, the Ecomondo award is presented at the annual Ecomondo Green Technology Expo, a leading trade show in Europe dedicated to technological and industrial innovation and held November 8-11, 2022 in Rimini, Italy. Ecomondo is supported by the European Commission and Italian Ministry of Ecological Transition.
