Energy Dome is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity at our company. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status, and we encourage all qualified individuals to apply.
Energy Dome is the owner and developer of CO2 Battery technology, a ground-breaking innovation which uses carbon dioxide in a closed loop thermodynamic process to provide efficient, affordable long duration energy storage (LDES) for intermittent renewables – the key to enabling decarbonization of the global power system.
The CO2 Battery is already proven in operation at Energy Dome’s MW-scale demonstration project in Sardinia, Italy, and the company is expanding rapidly with first full-scale (20MW/200MWh) commercial projects already under construction or awarded in Italy and the United States. The company has a robust pipeline in USA, EU, Australia, Chile, Oman, India and other key LDES markets.
The CO2 Battery is a standardized, modular product which uses off-the-shelf industrial components with well-established, global supply chains, enabling Energy Dome to rapidly scale-up and accelerate widespread adoption of the technology in key global markets.
Energy Dome offers the CO2 Battery to the market both as a technology supplier (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and under an “Energy Storage as a Service” or Build-Own-Operate (BOO) business model. After the recent launch of the latter, we are already developing several projects in Italy, the United States, Chile, Ireland, and Australia. This key service line will cater to customers that prefer not to own and operate CO2 Batteries themselves but prefer to enter into long term capacity off-take agreements with Energy Dome.
To meet a significant demand in this area, we are now looking for our first Director – Tolling Origination, who will assume a critical role in advancing Energy Dome’s commercial success by supporting the development and growth of our Storage as a Service Business Unit, being the key person in the negotiation and structuring of tolling contracts with off-take customers.
This highly commercial role requires an expert with a deep understanding of the power, utility and trading industry, capable of developing term sheets, leading negotiations with customers, reaching commercial alignment, and executing definitive agreements. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with sales, business development, legal counsel and finance teams to ensure alignment on deals and seamless execution of tolling contracts.
Role Location:
• Role can be based in either Europe (with preference for Milan but open to remote locations) or USA (with preference for Boston but open to other locations);
• Remote is possible;
• Regular travel required (>30%).
Reports to:
• COO, Energy Storage as a Service
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Relationship Management
• In coordination with Sales and Business Development Managers in the Regions, ensure effective customer relationship management. The Tolling Origination role is to serve as the custodian of the tolling term sheet definition and negotiation process with internal and external stakeholders, addressing inquiries and fostering strong, long-term relationships. The director must excel in understanding stakeholder and customer dynamics, resolving issues promptly, and finding common ground between Energy Dome and customer goals by working in close concert with Sales and Business Development Managers.
Deal Structuring
• Coordinate with finance and business development teams to develop appropriate deal structures, ensuring financial viability and strategic fit with Energy Dome’s BOO model. This involves participating in detailed financial modeling, risk assessment, and scenario analysis for effective decision-making. The Originator must ensure that all financial, commercial and legal aspects of the tolling agreements are meticulously planned and communicated. The Originator will work with Sales, Business Development, Technical Sales, Finance and Legal teams to agree on, seek approval, and submit final tolling pricing and draft term sheet proposals to customers, and will be responsible for updating and monitoring this pricing throughout negotiations to ensure both value creation and protection for Energy Dome.
Term Sheet Submission and Negotiation
• This Origination role will lead and own the negotiation of all BOO term sheet processes. This requires holding ownership over Energy Dome’s in-house term sheet templates, with responsibility for adapting and submitting term sheet proposals to customers, working closely with the Legal department and Business Development colleagues. In competitive RFP processes, this role also requires reacting to contract templates issued by customers and adapting those to fit Energy Dome’s requirements. This includes preparing comprehensive documentation, conducting in-depth analyses, interfacing with the technical sales team to resolve techno-economic challenges, and driving all stakeholders towards the outcome of term sheet alignment and signature. This individual must exhibit proficiency in navigating complex negotiations, securing favorable terms, and identifying risks together with mitigating strategies to be reflected in the commercial terms.
Tolling Contract Structuring
• Lead the end-to-end process of translating negotiated term sheets into structured definitive agreements that deliver on Energy Dome’s overarching strategic goals. Work closely with Energy Dome’s legal counsel (and external counsel where applicable) to review, negotiate, and finalize definitive agreements for tolling contracts. This requires a thorough understanding of legal frameworks and the ability to translate commercial and techno-economic terms into legally sound contracts across multiple jurisdictions. Oversee the execution process to ensure all conditions are met and agreements are accurately documented and enforced.
Qualifications:
• A highly analytical skill-set as measured by a bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline, Economics, or a related field. Advanced qualifications are not required but are viewed favorably. Experience having worked as an Originator is viewed more favorably than a specific academic background.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience working as an Originator or in a similar role, having had direct commercial and transactional experience in structuring and negotiating Power Purchase Agreements, Tolling Contracts or related energy supply deals.
• Experience working in a trading or origination division of a large energy corporation (e.g. wholesale power trader, commodity trading house, utility, oil and gas major) is viewed favorably, as is experience working in an Independent Power Producer or Developer. The individual must have a deep understanding of the dynamics of power markets (regulated, wholesale), revenue streams, customer use cases, and customer origination processes.
• Strong commercial, financial and legal skill-set in power contract origination, negotiation, structuring and execution. The individual must have an outstanding commercial, financial and legal acumen together with a keen understanding of principles and practices common in the power project development, utility, trading and large energy user (C&I) segments. It is essential that the individual can negotiate favorable terms and manage complex contracting dynamics.
• Results-focused individual that has a bias towards execution.
• Ability to think strategically and contribute to the broader commercial strategy of Energy Dome.
• Ability to adapt to a fast-changing environment, and tolerance of ambiguity.
• Desire to work across borders, embrace new markets and take on further responsibility.
• Comprehensive understanding of Energy market dynamics and regulatory environments.
• Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including sales, BD, technical, legal and finance departments.
• Meticulous attention to detail with exceptional organizational skills.
• Proficient English is essential; other languages viewed favorably especially Italian and / or Spanish.
