Energy Dome, in collaboration with 13 other companies and the Polytechnic University of Milan, finances one of the 25 scholarships for female students preparing for careers in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
Milan, 10 February 2023– The Polytechnic University of Milan today announced Girls@Polimi – Scholarships for future engineers, for the academic year 2023-2024, coinciding with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, that occurs on 11 Feb.
Today’s news turns the spotlight on the significant and persistent gender gap that has always characterized female participation in STEM disciplines. Although the extent of this gap differs among nations, the trend is global. Currently, only one out of three engineering researchers in the world is female. Indeed, structural and social barriers prevent women and girls from entering and progressing in science. Internationally, women make up only 28 percent of engineering graduates and 40 percent of computer science graduates. Female researchers usually receive significantly smaller research grants than do their male colleagues.
There are 13 companies which, together with the alumni of the Polytechnic and the University itself, will sponsor 25 engineering students , pledging €24,000 per student (€8,000 per year), at the Polytechnic University of Milan. Students will attend courses with low female representation, such as Aerospace, Automation, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Mechanics and Industrial Production.
